It sits between your turntable and amplifier, raises the very small cartridge signal to line level and applies RIAA equalization. Only then does a record sound the way it was recorded.

When a dedicated phono preamp makes sense

Many amplifiers no longer have a phono input, others only a simple one for MM cartridges. If you use an MC cartridge or want to give your turntable more room, connect the Stateline Phono 2 to any line input. Its own external power supply keeps interference from the amplifier away.

Matched to your cartridge

For MM cartridges you can choose between four input capacitance settings, for MC cartridges the input impedance can be set in 50 steps. You will find the values for your cartridge in the manufacturer's data sheet.
