Highline Bobby S

The Bobby S is our smallest loudspeaker. A horn for the treble, a cabinet without damping material and a great deal of time spent on tuning: voices stand freely in the room, quiet details remain audible, and nothing becomes tiring, even after hours.

The Signature has a maple horn, a crossover with higher-grade components and the internal wiring of our Highline series. It handles up to 95 W. Cabinet, dimensions and finishes stay the same.

Close to the music

The Bobby S plays calmly and precisely. A voice stands where it was recorded, with its breath and the small turns between the notes. A double bass has body, even though the loudspeaker is hardly larger than a stack of records.

The horn ensures that quiet information arrives too: the reverberation of a room, the breath on a flute, a hand on the skin of a drum. Yet it does not sound like a horn. Nothing pushes forward, nothing turns harsh, not even after a long evening.

Two switches on the back adapt the sound to your room. In a bright room with lots of glass and stone, you take the high frequencies back a little; in a room with carpets and upholstered furniture, you leave them as they are.

A horn without the horn sound

The horn gently guides the movement of the tweeter dome into the air. Fine details arrive without the tweeter having to strain. We deliberately avoid compression drivers, which to our ears often sound thin and harsh. Horn and driver have been matched to each other over many years.

A cabinet that does not resonate

The birch plywood cabinet is wider at the back than at the front. No standing waves form between the angled side walls, and the 40 mm rear panel keeps the cabinet calm. This is why the Bobby S needs no damping material, which takes energy out of the music along with resonances. It stands on three feet of solid walnut.

Tuned by hand

Woofer and tweeter are matched to each other before the crossover is designed. This allows a simple crossover with few, carefully chosen components. We receive the tweeter capacitors as raw windings from Mundorf and finish them in our workshop. The internal wiring is solid copper.

For your room

With “Level” you set the volume of the high frequencies, with “Slope” the transition between horn and woofer. Two pairs of terminals allow bi-wiring and bi-amping; jumpers for single-cable operation are included.

The start of the system: a compact two-way loudspeaker with a tweeter horn for rooms up to about 25 m². It stands on a stand, a sideboard or a Bass Extension.

The Bobby S on a Bass Extension: a slim floorstanding loudspeaker that reaches deeper into the bass. The Bass Extension has exactly the right height, so no stand is needed.

What it needs

Placement

On a sturdy stand, a Bass Extension or a sideboard, with the horn at about ear height. A good starting point is around 2.5 m between the loudspeakers and 3 m to the listening position, slightly angled towards you.

Amplifier

The Bobby S does not need a large amplifier. We usually listen to it with our Stateline Amp 2 at 2 × 20 W. Whether tube or solid state is up to your taste.

Room

For rooms of up to around 25 m², the Bobby S on its own is a good choice. For larger rooms or a deeper foundation in the bass, we recommend the Bobby M.

Delivery and returns

We build your loudspeakers in Mülheim an der Ruhr and ship them securely packed. In standard colours they reach you in around 10 working days, in the colour of your choice in three to four weeks. We are happy to help you with placement and setup by phone.

You have 30 days to return them. Custom finishes in a colour of your choice are excluded.
